Vineyards and Wineries
Moorilla Winery is a contemporary vineyard that follows organic, bio-dynamic principles. Fruit is grown in a sustainable manner to produce quality premium wines.
Originally planted in 1958 by Claudio Alcorso, an Italian textile merchant, the vineyard is now rather bizarrely part of the MONA (Museum of Old and New Art). Housed within the museum you’ll find The Wine Bar and the Cellar Door, where you can try your hand at wine tasting. Here there is also a restaurant where you can dine in front of the scenic Derwent River.
Fruit is grown in the Derwent Valley along the length of a peninsula on the river. Here there is a cool-climate that offers optimum conditions for the fruit to ripen. The vineyard produces Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot noir and Syrah, as well as a Vintage Brut and the two signature wines; the Praxis, which is a light and fruity wine, and the Muse, a more mature, classy wine.
Opening Times:
