Asian
After its opening in 1998, Me Wah soon became the top location to eat for Asian food afficionados, and with accolades like the 'best Asian restaurant in Tasmania' from 1999-2011, as well as 'best overall restaurant in Tasmania' in 2008, it's hard to argue that it's a top notch venue for Asian cuisine.
In both the restaurants (Hobart and Launceston), the interior is as extravagant as the food, with starched linen table cloths, Chinese screens and golden lions helping them to win the award for 'best designed restaurant in Tasmania'.
The a la carte menu is truly extensive, offering endless options of spring rolls, dumplings, peking duck, noodles, fish, meat and pretty much everything you could ever imagine. And to finish off, the dessert menu gives you the chance to cleanse your palate, with refreshing green tea and pistachio ice cream, mango sorbet, or a seasonal fruit platter.
Having spent many years sourcing wines from far and wide, their fine wine list (37 pages in length) ensures they have a diverse selection to complement all the dishes and flavours their menu emcompasses.
For a bit more Chinese culture, the restaurant offers Yum Cha at the weekends from 11am-1pm or 1pm-3pm. This Chinese tradition which translates as 'drink tea' is the custom where Chinese families gather at the weekends to eat dim sum, sip tea and have a catch up. Take a look at the menu for details of the nibbles and tea available.
